       Genealogy is the discovery of your FAMILY HISTORY.  At present, it is the
fastest growing hobby in the country.  We have combined our research and record
 keeping by using our "friendly home computer".  Come join us, whether you are
    computer literate or not.  We will be glad to help you get started.

   9:00 am is the Officers Business Meeting

Geneology Societies in Our Area

1.Genealogy Forum - Monthly meeting on the 2nd Thursday
of the month for people interested in researching their
genealogy.  This is a round table discussion.  It is open
to all members of the community.
 It is held at the Page Walker Hotel, Call 460-4963
They do not have a website.

PROGRAMS FOR THE YEAR 2004 - 2005


 January 17, 2004   We will be having our Christmas Party and our "Show and
Tell" program.
  February 21, 200    Our speaker for this meeting is one of our own members, Bruce Rasa and Terri Hopkins.  They attended the NGS Gentech meeting in January 2004.  They will be speaking on the meeting.
  March 20, 2004      Our program for this month will be a video tape on 
 "Tracing Ancestors Across the Atlantic" featuring Dr. Geo. K. Schweitzer.  We saw his last tape on "Migrational Routes and Settlement Patterns" last year.
  April 26,  2004   The April program is the "Genealogy Fair" at the LDS Church on Six Forks Rd. from 9 am - 1:00 pm.  It is a great program, plan to attend
  May 15, 2004   Dick English, will speak on Maps & Devices;  Scott Lee will be speaking on Google Searches
  June 19, 2004   There will be no meeting in June
  July 17, 2004   There will be no meeting in July
  August 21, 2004   There will be no meeting in August
  September 18, 2004
  We will be resuming our meetings in September at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5060 Six Forks Road, Raleigh.  The program will be announced later in the summer.  Hope you have had a great summer vacation.

 FAQ'S By Beginners

        1.  Where is the meeting located?
                ans.   At the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints
 5060 Six Forks Road
Raleigh, NC

        2.  How do I get there?
                ans.   from Cary, Take US 1 & 440,(the Beltline) North to the
Six Forks Road
North Exit. Turn right onto Six Forks Rd.

         ..                           Go to the first or second driveway after the Luthern Church.
                    Use the side entrance to the church or Family History Center.
                          When you enter the church bldg. inquire at the Family History
                  Center Office as to where the PAF Meetings are being held.
 

           3.  What type of computer do I need?
                    ans.   If you are reading this page, you qualify. It is possible to even use an
                              IBM 286, or compatable as the PAF  program will run on it.
                             Call and we will be glad to discuss computers with you.

            4.  What computer programs does the Club use?
                     ans.  Most of the members of our club use PAF which is a program that is
                     purchased from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in
Salt Lake City, Utah . (Actually the program is free)

The club however, is not affiliated with the church.
PAF stands for Personal Ancestral File.
Other programs we use are Family Tree Maker,
Legacy, Ancestral Quest,  The Master Genealogist, etc.
   These are all excellent programs.  It just depend
         on your purpose for using them.

         5.   What is the focus of the group?
                     ans.  The club provides information on the use of computers in genealogical
                              research and record keeping of your family history data. Today our
                              membership consists of a cross section of the triangle area; young families,
                              older families, empty nesters, senior citizens and anyone else who wants to
                              trace their roots.
